A Unique Farm Experience

As part of the Valkfontein farm, you’ll be surrounded by the peaceful rhythm of rural life. Take a leisurely stroll through the farm, home to a variety of farm animals and several species of game, and soak in the beautiful views while enjoying the tranquillity that only a working farm can offer.

The farm is rich in fauna and flora, with each season bringing new wildflowers to admire and spectacular birds to tick off your list. Our three dams, fed by a perennial crystal-clear natural spring, remain strong year-round and are stocked annually with Rainbow and Brown Trout as well as Bass. The farm operates on a catch-and-release basis. Whether you’re fishing, hiking, biking, or simply relaxing on the porch,Highlands Nature Retreat, Troutwoods, Troutwaters and Die Plaashuis provide the perfect setting for a rejuvenating escape.

Each of our cottages is nestled in its own private fully fenced garden, complete with its own private fully fenced dam. While guests are free to explore the beautiful farm, we kindly ask that dogs are kept on a leash when outside of the private garden and dam areas—especially when all cottages are occupied, as you may encounter other dogs.

House Rules for Our Furry Friends: Our couches and bedding are already cozy enough, so we’d appreciate it if you help keep them clean by minimizing extra fur. The couches are covered with additional blankets to protect them from muddy paws, please keep these blankets on at all times.  Please ensure that you clean up after your pets. A poop scoop is provided next to the outside bin for your convenience. Dogs are welcome to roam off-leash within private garden and dam areas. However, when venturing beyond these spaces and exploring the farm, please keep your dog on a leash, especially when both cottages are occupied. We have farm animals and game roaming freely across the farm, so it’s important to keep your pets on a leash to ensure their safety as well as the safety of the farm animals. We kindly request that dogs are not left unattended in the cottages at any time. You will be responsible for any damage caused by your pets.
